Chamber to help develop future leaders program

Christy Kettler
Tuttle Area Chamber of Commerce

Congratulations to our Students of the Month for January, Julie Berryhiil and Sam Pagel, thanks students for your hard work.

The Chamber is looking at a busy 2007.

One of our new projects for this year is a Tuttle Future Leaders Program. The Chamber in conjunction with the City of Tuttle and Tuttle Public Schools will offer this program to Tuttle High School Juniors February 28-March 2nd.

To qualify for the program students must complete an application, have three written letters of recommendation (from school counselors, teachers, church leaders, or other community organization leaders).

The students selected for the program must commit to complete the entire program.

Conflicting school activities and other activities should be considered prior to applying for the program.

The school will furnish a bus and driver to transport the students during the program.

Students are not permitted to drive their cars during the program. They may bring cell phones but they are not to be used except during travel times. The idea is to spend time together on equal status to gain respect for each other and not what they have. Students will be provided knit shirts of the same color with a "Future Leaders" logo on them.

They are to wear khaki pants so that they look uniform. Certificates of completion are provided to the students who complete the entire program only.

The students are required to complete an evaluation form at the close of the program.

Selected students will be notified at the end of January and we are hoping for a good response. We are aware that there are many other activities that demand attention, but we are confident that we will find students who are willing to learn to be our future leaders.

We are hoping this program will be such a hit with the students that our juniors are eager to be selected for the honor next year.

Coming events are: February 14th is our next Chamber meeting as well as Valentine's Day, Community Easter Egg Hunt will be April 7th in Schrock Park, the City-Wide Garage Sale is May 18-19 and the Ice Cream Festival is July 4th (it is also Tuttle's official Centennial Celebration).
