Local library a boost for Tuttle

I want to thank you for the supplemental insert to the Tuttle Times issue of Wednesday, April 30. I found it most informative and wish each issue of the paper could be that interesting.

I was also delighted to read about an upcoming bond issue (that) will have allowances for a possible library. I do hope the outcome is positive, and here is why: As I’ve mentioned before, I take my granddaughter to the Mustang Library for books. During our last trip, last week, I overheard another lady from Tuttle buying her library card.

Business owners and anyone who cares about our city, this may not be a good thing. If that lady is like me, we think, “Well, as long as I’m here, I may as well do my shopping and get some gas.” Money that could have been spent in Tuttle. Although there are times that I deliberately save my shopping and patronize our own lumber yard and grocery store, because it will be a sad day when they are forced to close for lack of business. But the temptation is great. Having a local library will save us a trip to Mustang or another nearby city and hopefully leave more of our money here.

Secondly, I pick up my granddaughter from school every day. I usually get there early and see students returning to their building after a trip to the school library. Most of the children can’t even wait to get back to their room to read their book, but walk and read at the same time, a feat for only the young. It gladdens me to see their obvious love of reading, but what do these children do for books in the summer? Either do without or are taken to another city’s library, where I bet the driver does some more shopping.

I talk about our needing a library nearly everywhere I go and all seem to agree. I only hope that they put their convictions into action on election day.

It would be so nice to go to our library in our town and do our shopping here. Then stop in across the street, climb up on one of those soda fountain stools for a refreshing ice cream soda or a vanilla malt shake.
