Let’s Put Christ
Back in Xmas
Now every year at “Xmas” time
We see the same old things
A sleigh that’s pulled by eight reindeer
With Santa at the reins.
Most all the stores are filled with gifts
And every kind of toy
Arranged so they will catch the eyes
Of every girl and boy.
The retail stores are doing great
With people everywhere
And in the crowded shopping mall
There’s music in the air.
But if you listen to the songs
And follow every word
You very seldom hear a song
That glorifies the Lord.
First “Mommie’s Kissing Santa Claus”
You hear that every year
Then “Blue, Blue Christmas” comes along
It almost brings a tear.
Don’t get me wrong - I like the songs
Old “Rudolph’s” not so bad
And “Frosty” is a lot of fun
He makes the kids feel glad.
“White Christmas” is a pretty song
I like it done by “Bing”
It brings back lots of memories
To hear old Crosby sing.
“Rocking Around the Christmas Tree”
Some people like that, too
“Jingle Bell Rock” may be your song
I guess that’s up to you.
But I just wish they’d spend more time
With songs like “Silent Night”
Or “Little Town of Bethlehem”
Helps make the season bright.
“It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”
That’s one we all know well
Another one I like to hear
Is called “The First Noel”.
“Away in a Manger” should be played
For little girls and boys
It tells them Christmas time is more
Than just a time for toys.
We’ve taken Christ completely out
Of Christmas - so it seems
And in His place we’ve put an X
Do you know what that means?
I’m told an X stands for “unknown”
And tho’ we know Him well
He’s still unknown to lots of folks
And those we need to tell.
They need to know about His death
His suffering and pain
But most of all they need to know
He came to life again.
Yes, He’s alive and now He lives
in every Christian heart
And in this Christmas time of year
He needs to have a part.
Because of Him, God gave a gift
For all the world to share
It’s not just at one certain store
You find it everywhere.
The gift is free to everyone
It doesn’t cost a cent
It’s one gift you can still afford
When all your money’s spent.
You never have to wait in line
It’s never “out of stock”
No one can steal it from a car
That you forgot to lock.
You’ll never have to take it back
Because it doesn’t fit
It never will be “out of date”
You won’t grow tired of it.
The gift comes with a guarantee
That’s good forever more
It’s just the same for everyone
All people-rich or poor.
God’s gift is everlasting life
Yes, life that never ends
I’m sure we all would like that gift
For family and for friends.
So let’s make sure the Word goes out
To people everywhere
That by God’s grace, through faith in Christ
The gift is theirs to share.
And let’s spell Christmas like we should
Let’s take the X away
And put Christ back where he belongs
This blessed Christmas Day.
