OHCE groups hold December meetings

Friendly Mound

Jean Streber was hostess for the Friendly Mound OHCE’s Christmas Dinner on Dec. 17.

A delicious ham dinner with all the trimmings and homemade rolls was enjoyed by the five members and four guests.

After dinner a short business meeting was held. We discussed the Winter Council Meeting to be held on Jan. 27 at the fairground’s Community Building. Our group is hostess for that day and will be decorating the tables. Discussion was held on items to decorate with as the theme is anything “Old-Fashioned”. Each member present at the meeting is asked to dress in her favorite period and the dress that depicts that period. Two of our members will furnish side dishes to go with the meal of stew and cornbread.

We discussed our projects for the year, helping the Head Start Program, and sending care boxes to military men and women overseas.

Hostess and lesson leaders for the coming year were assigned. We will meet with Oneta Doubleday on Jan. 28 with lesson on “Clutter’s Last Stand.”

Members and guests attending the Christmas dinner were: Cleta and Glenn Rodker, Dima and Bill Ragsdale, Janice and Gene Corley, Oneta Doubleday, and Junior Streber.

Springcreek

Springcreek Oklahoma Home and Community Education met Dec. 12, 2008. Members met at the home of Ann Smith. President Margie Howe called the meeting to order. Ann Smith gave the opening devotional reading from Luke 2. We sang the 12 days of Christmas with a reading explaining the origin of the song and the meaning of the lyrics.

For roll call, 14 members answered “My Favorite Holiday Tradition.”

The minutes and financial report were given by Sandra Grodecki. No corrections were made.

Members then exchanged gifts and enjoyed homemade goodies and Christmas party foods.

Gifts were brought for Santa’s Workshop for the children. We also brought food and put together the food baskets to be delivered for families for Christmas.

Springcreek members will continue to bring supplies for military boxes to be sent to Iraq for our soldiers. Items brought to the November meeting were sent in time for Christmas.

Nine Springcreek members attended the Grady County OHCE Awards Program on Dec. 8 at 11:30 a.m. with a catered lunch. Hostesses for the program were Friend and County Officers.

The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the OSU Extension office. Visitors are encouraged to attend our monthly meetings and to join in the fun and the camaraderie of friends and common goals. Anyone interested in visiting or joining our Springcreek OHCE group is encouraged to call (224-5844) or (222-3560).
