Fairgrounds top commissioners’ agenda in meeting
Karen Brady
The Grady County Fairgrounds was the first agenda item at the Grady County Commissioners’ regular Monday-morning meeting on April 7.
Fairgrounds Marketing Director Peggy McMahan was on hand to speak to the board about signing a contract for bid work on the fairgrounds parking lot, so that work may begin. The contract was approved, pending further approval from the district attorney’s office.
According to McMahan, the existing main fairground entrance will be permanently closed and a new entrance will be built near the centennial clock. The entrance east of the current main entrance near the digital sign will remain open. Another entrance is planned near the rodeo ground.
McMahan said the facility is booked through 2009 and she is working on 2010, with several proms planned for this spring, including Dibble, Ninnekah and Rush Springs holding their proms there.
Next, Doug Meeks was appointed to the Grady County Fire Board as a representative from the Harold Fire Department. It has been three years since Harold had any representation on the Fire Board.
The board then signed project sheets for the Otter Creek bridge and the Little Washita River bridge projects.
“These bridges are on the five-year plan and were up to be next in line, “ said District No. 2 Commissioner Mike Lennier. “But they will most likely be placed behind the Verden bridge project.”
A single bid was then opened for an emergency public notification system. Connect-CTY was the single bidder and the board approved “Option two.” According to Grady County Sheriff Kieran McMullen, the system can be in place within 30 days of notification.
The board then requested bids for roadside spraying in District No. 3 and for chemicals for roadside spraying for all districts.
Next, Commissioners voted to dispose of two used graders from District No. 2
Finally, the board accepted a previously tabled bid for a new tag-along equipment trailer for District No. 2. Lennier opted to accept the low bid of $24,400 from Southwest Trailers. The only other bidder was Bruckner truck Sales with a bid of $25,745.
