Commissioners discuss multiple topics

Karen Brady

The Grady County Commissioners covered everything from closed bridges to service contracts to plumbing at their regular Monday morning meeting on June 9.

District No. 2 Commissioner Mike Lennier issued a press release saying the old Highway 81 bridge over the Washita River north of Chickasha has been permanently closed as a result of long-term erosion and structural damage to bridge pilings and trusses. According to Lennier, after an inspection, it was determined that some pilings extend only nine feet into the ground and no longer have the capacity to carry traffic loads.

Because the bridge is a “terrible drift catcher,” it will most likely be removed.

The board then approved juvenile detention service contracts between Sequoyah Enterprises, Inc., Sac and Fox Nation, Comanche County Juvenile Bureau and the Board of Grady County Commissioners.

In addition, Commissioners voted to request bids for labor only on plumbing for the courthouse as well as bids for janitorial services for the Ag Center.

Commissioners also approved FDIC Depository Agreements between the Board of the Grady County Commissioners and the following banks: Chickasha Bank, First National Bank and Trust, Stillwater Bank, Sooner State Bank and Verden Bank.

Sem Materials, L. P. of Tulsa was the winning bidder on six-month bids on road oils for all districts. Other bidders were Coastal Energy Corp. of Willow Springs, Mo. and Scotwood Industries, Inc. of Overland Park, Kan.

No action was taken on a request for bids for janitorial services for the District Attorney’s Complex, pending the DA’s examination of the job specifications.

Similarly, no action was taken on bids for commonly used items for all districts; no action was taken on disposing of equipment for the Sheriff’s Department; and no action was taken on the approval of signing a petition to vacate an alley in Norge, pending a decision from the district attorney.
