Tuttle will host the 2008 Northern District Fair this year on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15-16.
The fair is supported by the Cake Auction which will be held Saturday, Aug. 16. To encourage everyone to bake and enter a cake, our fair association is offering a grand prize of $100 to each of five winners in the Junior and Senior divisions. Reserve Grand winners will receive $50 each. Cakes may be entered Saturday, Aug. 16 from noon until 2 p.m. in the agriculture building.
The Junior division includes individuals who are in school while the Senior division includes all other entries.
Earnings from the cake show are used to sponsor the fair prize money and help make improvements to the fairgrounds.
The seven categories for each division are 1) Light Butter: White or yellow cakes with no added ingredients, 2) Dark Butter or Chocolate: Red velvet and all other chocolate except German Chocolate, 3) German Chocolate: Any cakes that have German Chocolate as an ingredient, 4) Italian Cream Cake, 5) Angel Food/Chiffon: Foam or sponge-type cakes, 6) Miscellaneous: Includes any kind of cake which does not fall into one of the other classes (for example, cakes with nuts, coconut, fruit, etc.) 7) Creative cakes: Cakes using a mix only as a base; other ingredients must be added, such as fruit, nuts, coconut, etc.
The Creative Cakes will not be judged for the Grand prize.
Frostings and fillings are not considered in determining which category a cake will be entered. The Cake Show Committee reserves the right to decide which category a cake will be placed.
Cake registration will be held at the Tuttle Ag. Dept. classroom Saturday, Aug. 15 from noon to 2 p.m. It is important to register your cake during the designated time. Please do not leave your cake without registering it with a committee member. By entering at the time specified, it reduces the chance for errors.
The cake committee appreciates your cooperation in this matter. Cakes must be labeled with your name, address, division, type of cake and category. If you would like to use a cake box to transport your cake, you may pick up a box provided by the cake committee the week of the fair from Denise Bayliff or from the Ag. classroom on Friday, Aug. 15. If you have any questions, call Denise Bayliff at 381-3696.
