Community invited to talk about proposed Tuttle library

Everyone in the Tuttle community is invited to a meeting July 25 at 9:30 a.m. at Tuttle High School for a discussion about a proposed Tuttle library. The Tuttle Library Committee will be meeting with Anne Masters, Director of Pioneer Library System and community input is welcomed.

Masters met with the Tuttle City Council on July 14 and explained the process for Tuttle to join the Pioneer Library System, which operates nine regional branch libraries in Cleveland, McClain, and Pottowatomie counties. The Tuttle City Council has discussed placing the proposed library in the remodeled city hall building, after moving city offices across the street, or in Schrock Park. Masters advised the council that there is a minimum space requirement of 5,000 square feet for new libraries. The city hall building at 301 W. Main would only be half of that and would not qualify, Masters said.

The City of Tuttle would need to pass a millage increase to support the library system as well as a bond issue to pay for a library building. Community members are urged to attend the planning meeting on July 25 to obtain more information.
