Commissioners reject property bid, approve NIMS compliance
Karen Brady
The Grady County Commissioners started their regular meeting Monday, Aug. 4 by going into executive session to seek advice from the district attorney regarding a threatened lawsuit relating to a property in Middleberg.
After returning from executive session, the board voted to reject Don Tabler’s bid on the Middleberg property, which includes Block 30, all of lots 13 through 24.
Next, Emergency Management Director Dale Thompson told the board that the county must stay in compliance with the National Incident Management System for 2008. Thompson presented a letter to the board that will be sent to NIMS listing the fire departments, emergency management, sheriff’s office, county barns and courthouse responsible for compliance.
Thompson told the board if the county is not NIMS compliant, they cannot put in for CDBG grants or other grants.
The board voted to approve an updated resolution adopting the NIMS for all county entities including the Grady County Courthouse.
Thompson then presented a letter he received from the National Weather Service Office of the U. S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Norman saying that StormReady for Grady County has been extended for another three years. The letter congratulated Thompson and his staff for his “continuing efforts in hazardous weather preparedness, planning and response,” and thanked him for his work helping the community be prepared to handle dangerous weather.
The board then approved a claim from Cobb Engineering for completion of engineering plans on the bridge over the Little Washita River north of Farwell. The board also approved a county commissioner’s deed to Jack T. and Linda F. Crider for property in Burtschi’s first addition, as well as a motion to approve the ACH agreement between the Grady County Clerk and the First National Bank and Trust Company for direct deposit, federal and state payments.
Commissioners took no action on a request for bids on a new roof for the Grady County Courthouse. County Clerk Sharon Shoemake said there was $37,000 in the General Government account and suggested no action be taken on the new roof bids until after the new budget is approved.
Finally, a representative of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation dropped by to check on the status of road and bridge projects in the county.
