Miller crowned Miss Northern District

Tuttle’s Alexander named 2nd Runner-up, Schmieding Miss Photogenic

Amber-Pocasset’s Dakota Miller was named 2007 Miss Northern District at the crowning ceremony following the cake auction Aug. 18 in Amber.

Tuttle contestants Kari Alexander and Amy Schmieding earned awards at the competition. Alexander was named 2nd Runner-up and Schmieding won the Miss Photogenic title.

Nicole Wray was named 1st Runner-up and Elizabeth Shelhamer earned the Miss Congeniality title. Both contestants are Minco students.

Miller won the crown despite a theater-darkening power outage interrupting her talent, singing “How Could I Ask for More” by Cindy Morgan.

During the poise question portion of the competition, the 2006 Miss Northern District, Kaci Robertson, asked contestants questions drawn from a bowl. Miller was asked, “if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?”

“I believe, if I could go anywhere in the world, I would want to travel to Haiti because it is the most deprived place on Earth and I could help and bring light to that place,” she responded.

Mollie Richardson answered the question, “who is someone who inspires you and why?”

“The person who inspires me most is my mother, because she works the hardest and I believe everyone should work as hard as they can,” she said.

Richardson performed the song “Waiting” which she wrote.

Robin Chancellor was asked, “I you were given one million dollars, how would you spend it?”

“If I had a million dollars, first I’d put ten percent into the offering, because that’s what you’re supposed to do,” she answered. “Then I buy a house and put the rest into charity.”

Chancellor sang “Talk About It” by Nicole C. Mullins for her talent.

Amy Schmieding answered the question, “Describe what you believe true beauty is?”

“I believe true beauty is what’s inside, not outside and that actions speak louder than words,” she answered.

Schmieding sang “The Love of the Lord Endures” by Jay Williams for her talent.

Alyssa Henderson answered the question, “If you could be anything in the world, what would you be and why?”

“I would want to be a dance teacher, because not only do you help little kids with their potential in life, but you have fun too,” she said.

Henderson danced to the song “Heaven’s Song” by Rick Pinot.

Kari Alexander was asked, “If you could give any message to the world, what would it be?”

“I think it would be, just be yourself and have fun,” she said.

Alexander sang “Settlin’” for her talent.

Amanda Cradduck was asked, “If you could do won thing to change the world, what would it be?”

“If I could do one thing to change the world, I would take out all the weapons and stop the wars,” she answered.

Cradduck sang “Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way” by LeAnn Rhimes.

Elizabeth Shelhamer answered the question, “what would you like to achieve in your life time?”

“What I’d like to achieve in my life time is going to college and going to help out other kids,” she said.

Shelhamer sang “If You Want Me To” by Ginny Owens for her talent.

Nicole Wray was asked, to define success.

“I think success if following your dream and doing your very best,” she said.

Wray played “The Star Spangled Banner” and “Oklahoma” on the trumpet for her talent.

JoAnna Shepperd was asked, “What do you think is man’s greatest invention?”

“I think man’s greatest invention is the radio because I love to listen to it every day,” she said. “My mom gets on to me because I turn it up to loud.”

Shepperd sand “A Whole New World” for her talent.

Marla Ross answered the question, “If you could have any dream come true, what would it be?”

“If I could have any dream come true, it would be to get a family to be happy,” she answered.

Ross performed an interpretation of Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer.” The juggled, then performed the rag-time tune on the clarinet and piano.

Megan Michaud was asked, “What is the one quality you possess to help others?”

“The one quality I possess would be I’m a trustworthy person. Anybody can trust me with secrets and I won’t tell anybody,” she said.

Michaud danced to the song “Far Away” by Nickelback.
