Streber Family reunites

The 2009 Streber Family Reunion was held Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Senior Citizens Center in Tuttle.
This event is well known for its family quilts, with each family making a quilt block that is later assembled into a quilt top to be given away in a drawing at the reunion. The new “to be won” 2009 quilt, assembled by Joy Basler of Mustang, winner of the 2008 quilt top, was on display along with 10 quilts from years past.
The reunion kicked off with a blessing by Troy Streber of Tuttle, followed by a potluck dinner.
After dinner, Nancy Dennis called the family meeting to order.
There were no babies born this past year, which was possibly a first. Next year will be a different story, with at least three lucky couples already expecting.
The newlywed couple introduced included Braden and Emily Williams of Mustang, son of Marty and Brenda Williams, Dakota and Mary Streber of Shawnee, son of Mark Streber, and James and Nan Andrews of Tuttle.
The oldest members present, Bernice Fidler of Yukon and Tarcie McCarthy of Tuttle, were each presented with a throw to keep them warm during the upcoming winter.
Carol Streber of Lovington. N. M. won a potpourri vase as the person who traveled the farthest to attend the reunion. Linda Eldridge of Kingston was the first to turn in her quilt block for this year’s quilt top, landing herself a welcome mat.
A moment of silence and prayer was taken to remember those family members who passed away in the last year, including Norma Lee Weaver, oldest daughter of Norma Hurst, Margie Lee of Oklahoma City, Norma Hurst’s sister and the last of Alta Streber’s children, Delbert (Jim) and Ruby Streber, husband and wife of Grandview, Wash., and their oldest child, Judy Creveates of Madoata, Wash.
Terri Beard of Stroud drew the lucky number to win a beautiful picture frame and, last but not least, Nancy Dennis won the 2009 Streber quilt top (the 15th Streber quilt top to be made so far) as well as the honor of collecting the quilt blocks each family will make over the next year and assembling them into the 2010 Streber quilt to be given away at next year’s family reunion.
Next year’s reunion will be held Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 in the Family Life Center of Tuttle First Baptist Church.
