— GRACIE LAURITA “RITA” HAWKINS POWESHIEK
Gracie Laurita “Rita” Hawkins Poweshiek born April 17th, 1942 in Wetumka, OK and died April 19th in Dallas, TX.
Rita was the first Miss Sucker Day Queen in Wetumka, OK and graduated salutatorian of her class at Wetumka High School in 1958. She graduated Phi Theta Kappa from South Oklahoma City Junior College in 1982 and was awarded Pilot International Professional Handicapped Woman of the Year 1981.
Proprietor of Gene’s Boot and Shoe Repair business in Tuttle/Newcastle, OK. Rita was a devoted mother and homemaker, she spent her early life in church work, worked as a legal secretary, a florist, and a secretary working at both Tinker and FAA. Rita also taught toile painting and crochet.
She is survived by her son Mark Hawkins of Dallas, TX; Sister Elnora Collins of Wetumka, OK and brother Clois King of Tecumseh, OK.
Graveside services will be Thursday, April 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Wetumka Cemetery. A memorial celebration will be Saturday, May 12th at 2:00 p.m. at Kentucky Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK.
