Sheriff’s hearing resumes Wednesday

TUTTLE — Grady County Sheriff Kieran McMullen will be back in the courtroom today.

The sheriff along with his wife, deputy Lt. Robert Cacy, and former Chickasha officer Lt. Jerry Tyler will continue their joint preliminary hearing on the charge of peace officers engaged in illegal gambling.

Subpoenas were issued earlier this week for the appearance of former deputy Lt. Jim Peek, former Chickasha Officer Greg Parks and Deputy Delmer Barthelme. All three officers have already had their preliminary hearing on their involvement in the alleged gambling, in which Parks and Peek were bound over for trial. Barthelme’s case is pending, awaiting a ruling from the Criminal Court of Appeals.

All three men could appear on the stand in hearing against their fellow officers.

The same law which protected them from being prosecuted by their own testimony, could be used to compel them to testify against their fellow officers.

Special Judge Ken Harris has scheduled the courtroom for three days this week, in hopes of finishing the hearing.
