Bond set in new gambling charges

Jason Clarke
The Tuttle Times

TUTTLE Bond was set at $2,000 for the three officers charged Friday with illegal gambling at the Chickasha Elk’s Lodge.

Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Jim Peek, Deputy Delmer Barthelme, and former Chickasha Officer, now Grady County jailer, Greg Parks, were each charged with a felony of a peace officer engaging in illegal gambling and a misdemeanor charge of willful neglect of duty.

Deputy Bill Swanson was only charged with misdemeanor willful neglect of duty. His bond was set at $1,000 and he will reappear in court for misdemeanor docket on Nov. 22 at 8:30 a.m.

The initial four defendants in the Elks Lodge case, indicted by a multi-county grand jury, have been awarded preliminary hearings after requests from their attorneys. The hearings will put off the trial date originally set for Oct. 23.

All seven defendants with felonies have been set for preliminary hearings between January 4 and 5 of 2007.

Lt. Robert Cacy and former Chickasha Lt. Jerry Tyler will appear before the court at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 4.

Peek and Parks are set to appear for preliminary hearing on Jan. 5 at 9:30.

Barthelme, Sheriff Kieran McMullen and his wife Helen are set to appear at 1:30 on Jan. 5
