Tuttle Wrestlers attend OSU camp
The first week in July found thirteen Tuttle Wrestlers heading north to Stillwater, Oklahoma to participate in OSU - John Smith's Wrestling Camp.
The wrestlers were taught a style of wrestling that helped John Smith and OSU wrestlers reach their highest goals. Wrestlers would spend four days learning, practicing and competing.
Each day was broke into three sessions. The wrestlers would begin the morning session with instructions and demonstrations on takedown techniques; leg attack set-ups and finishes; bottom position escapes and scoring; top position rides, breakdowns and turns.
During the afternoon and evening sessions, the teams would compete in team duals. There were 33 teams formed, which were divided into 3 pools of 11 teams. OSU Wrestling Camp draws wrestlers from many different state including Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, and all over Oklahoma to make the competition the toughest. Each pool competed against one another on Tuesday and again on Wednesday afternoon with Wednesday evening being the championship rounds.
The Tuttle Tigers dominated the team dual competition with a 10-0 record moving into the Championship rounds. The undefeated Tigers faced Weatherford in the first championship round dominating many of the weights to move on to the final round. During the final round, the Tigers fell to the Marlow/Cushing/Bixby/El Reno/Pawnee Champion Team to bring home the Runner-Up Plaque.
The camp concluded on Thursday with the wrestlers competing individually in single elimination competition. Several of the wrestlers placed during this session.
Tuttle Wrestlers in attendance were Jake Mincey 1st place, Dylan Coppenbarger-2nd place, Jake Simpson 2nd place, Cole Gracey 2nd place, Adam Then 4th place, D.J Boles, Colton Roberts, Cramer Benson, Bobby Williams, Jake Pierce, Jerrod Williams, Shane Woods, and Jason Woods.
“These wrestlers are the nucleus of next yearís team,” said Coach Surber “our expectations are high.”
