Zac Simpson and Taylor Treadway proudly represented Tuttle during All-State wrestling matches between the East and West large and small schools held July 23 at Norman High School.
The East appeared to have an advantage, boasting nine state champioins in its line-up to the West’s three. That advantage held through the first half of the competition.
A powerful display of determination came in the 140-pound bout when Tuttle’s Zac Simpson battled tenaciously to upset two-time State Champion Derek Ward of Locust Grove. Simpson gained and early 2-0 lead, but Ward got a reversal late in the first period. Ward reversed Simpson again in the second period to score a 4-3 win. The win by the East gave them a 17-4 lead.
A turning point in the dual came when 145 pound Kody Bickerstaff of Marlow closed the gap with a decision over Shawn Ledford of Pawnee. This was followed by an impressive 3-0 decision win by Blanchard’s Zack McCloud over Will Shelton of Sperry in 152-pound bout and a dominating fall in the 160-pound bout when John Reeves of Burns Flat-Dill City pinned Kale Biggs of Bristow in 36 seconds.
The West was now trailing the East by only one point. The 171-pound bout ended with a decision for the East increasing their lead to 20-16.
Tuttle’s Taylor Treadway earned powerful 11-2 major decision over State Runner-Up Matt Cless of Blackwell . Treadway was in total control throughout the match, earning nine near-fall points by putting Cless on his back three different times. The win tied the dual 20-20.
The 215lb bout resulted in a fall for the East and the heavyweight bout resulted in a fall for the West ending the dual in a tie 26-26.
