On a cold blustery night in Edmond the Tigers 2007 season came to an end with a 29-0 loss to the Clinton Red Tornadoes. Clinton had previously beaten the Tigers 28-0 in the regular season.
This time around, the Red Tornadoes proved to be too much for the Tigers to handle. Clinton scored on their opening drive of the game and never looked back. The Tornadoes rushed for 197 yards while holding the Tigers to just 84 yards total offense and four first downs.
The Tigers never got the offensive machine fans saw a week ago in Vinita going. The Tigers had 73 yards rushing and were one for six with two interceptions and 11 yards passing. The Tigers end the season with 10 wins and three losses. The only other loss was to Kingfisher who also advanced to the finals with a win over Plainview Saturday night.
“They’re really big up front,” said head coach Philip Koons, “and they just moved us around. Defensively, they’re a great football team.”
Following the long walk back to the locker room, coach Koons congratulated his team for the season saying, “Great season! We got 10 wins. There are a lot of teams that would like to have traded places with you and like to have had this chance.”
“They are a really good foot ball team,” said Koons. “They’ll probably go on a win the state championship unless something crazy happens. They are the best team in the state. Can we play with them? Yes. I believe we can, but we can’t do it making the kind of mistakes we have. We just have to go back and get started on next year.”
“Seniors,” Koons spoke to specifically, “thanks for sticking it out and look at all you’ve accomplished, I’m proud of you and I love all you guys. Thanks for the 150th win. It means more than you know.”
