When you walk down the halls at Tuttle you might see a new face. Her name is Perecheya Watanokun also known as Jane. Jane is the foreign exchange student this year. She is from Korat, Nakhonratchasima, which is in Thailand.
Jane lives with Johann and Melody Teten. They also have a daughter, Jennifer Teten, which is a junior at Tuttle. Jennifer said, “I love having Jane at my house. She’s fun and she’s taught me a lot of new things.”
Jane started school this year as a junior at Tuttle High School. The classes she has taken include: Spanish I and II, Family and Consumer Science I and II, Algebra II and III, English III, and American history.
In Thailand, Jane attends a Catholic private school in Thailand. She stays in a dorm all year round, but she will stay in an apartment next school year. She goes to school from 7:45 in the morning until 6 at night, and then studies for two or three hours. She has to wear a uniform and she said classes are more difficult there than they are here. They will also require her to repeat her junior year over when she returns.
Jane likes to golf, hang out with friends, shop and eat. She says that the food here is different than back home. Jane knows Chinese, French, Thai, Spanish and English.
Jane said, “It’s weird that schools smaller than Tuttle have more foreign exchange students. Usually they have up to ten”
Jane has said that she thinks its awkward being the only Asian or person of different ethnicity. She said that when she came over here she felt really nervous because it was so different.
Tiffany Foster, a junior at THS, said “I’m so glad Jane came to Tuttle; she’s a lot of fun to hang out with. She makes us laugh a lot and I’m sure we will all be sad to see her go.”
The students at Tuttle High School will miss her smiling face and positive attitude. She has made many friends during her stay. Jane will return to Thailand in June.
